Naming Hunter Pets

Hunters: I dusted off the hunter from vanilla. I just hit pandaria (lil self congrats there) I'm wondering what resources do you use for naming your pets? I finally found my spirit beast (Gondria) and I can't quite find a good name for him. Thanks!

What I do is type out a word that I think would fit the pet, but I use my characters native language. If it sounds cool I use that.

I saw a pet once named "Imwithstupid" that made me laugh a bit.

I named my warp-stalker Tardis! :D

I named a number of my hunter pets after the weapons from Hellsing.

• Harkonnen the Bear

• Baerlks the Lion

• Casull the Warp Stalker

Sometimes I used mythical creatures.

• Arachne the Spider

And sometimes I named them for what they did or their abilities.

• Wrath the Raptor

• Whisper the Wolf

I just think of cool codenames, for eg my pets names are; Vega, Switch, Zodiac, Alpha, Echo, Zone and of course Buffy.

Based on advice from an old roommate, I like to name pets, "Pants".

I often uses a Thesaurus or google translate to come up with something fun.

Then again, I did name my wolf "Chewy".

I often find myself naming my pets after old cartoon animals or a combo of words depending on what the pet is EX. My plaguelands bear's name is Zombear (Zombie + bear).

I named my spirit beast "SmthngRacist" to combat all the monkeys named "Obama" I see in 3s.

I try to keep it short and simple. A random word can be much funnier than Gnomekill4r69.

I name my pets after real life or real id friends. Inevitably they give me a "wtf" when I summon them while playing together.

One of my friends named her pet worm after me because it had a "vag mouth." I wasn't sure if I should be offended or not.

Whatever comes into my head. A lot of mine are pokemon-themed (my hunter has a Pokemon name and I really do gotta collect 'em all OH MYYY GOD 50 PET SLOTS!!! etc)... but some are different, such as "Bromaggus" which I immediately thought of when I was able to tame Chromaggus lol.

I like themes. If you like a specific thing (greek mythology, chemicals, minerals, whatever), go with that.

When I find a pet I like, I tend to find one that looks similar to a Pokemon counterpart and name them that. Not really clever or anything, I'm sure lots of hunters do it.

I usually try to name them after Disney animals, like if I tame a tiger, I'll call him Rajah, or a fox, I'll name him Tod. If I can't think of something cool I just give it a random name or not at all!

As I've been levelling I've been doing lots of dungeons so whenever I tame a new pet, I ask my dungeon group to name them.

Ravager named Skippy

Scorpid named October (it's kind of a red colour so like the Red October and scorpion is my birth sign [born in October]).

Tiger named Tig after the Sons of Anarchy character.

I name the majority of my pets after gods/goddesses in Egyptian and Norse mythology. The names fit perfectly with most of my favorite pets, especially my spirit beasts. :)

I use wikipedia and thesauruses. Or connect their appearance or abilities to some mythical diety. Or give'em a fancy name based off their color or appearance.

Some names I might give Gondria: Amethyst, Spectre, Haunted, Mist, or Bast.

My friend names them after people he plays with.
